About 3 weeks ago Croatian ESL published news announcing the biggest tournament Croatian League of Legends scene has ever seen, called Balkan League. Consisting of 4 qualification cups and a big LAN final in Greece, only 4 countries have the right to participate in this tournament. Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia each host their own national qualifier and only the best team earns a place in the grand LAN final. Balkans finest will be clashing on the 15. and 16. of September in the second biggest city in Greece, Thessaloniki, and share the prize pool of 3,000 € and hardware from Razer. More information about the tournament is available HERE.

The Croatian qualifiers were organized as a three-day tournament and took place from the 22. to 24. of August. Guru Gaming being the most successful Croatian League of Legends team, wanted to attend the tournament and a new Guru Gaming LoL lineup was formed. As the first Guru LoL team was trying to find 2 more players for months and DGT team was inactive because of 2 members’ obligations, it was decided for the 2 teams to join forces. So Marko „DominatorGT“ Horvat and Martin „tinci“ Kolarić from DGT joined Domagoj „Cro Assasin“ Fumić, Davor „DacoCro“ Komljenović i Ivan „ZeroTruth“ Ramljak from first squad and the new lineup was ready to start preparing for the big test.

We are proud to announce that Guru Gaming has won the Croatian qualifiers and will be representing Croatia at the main event in Greece. With plenty of media coverage available, along with match podcasts, we want to invite everyone to watch our team and support Guru Gaming in their attempt to show that they are not just one of the best Balkan teams but are also able to hold their own against the best European teams.

After winning the Croatian qualifiers, we asked the captain Domagoj „Cro Assasin“ Fumić to tell us about the tournament from the players point of view:

„Although we have won most of Croatian competitions and have been the only Croatian team with European success with the original Guru team, we started training with the new lineup only two weeks before the qualifiers and we weren’t untouchable favorites. From day one we decided to practise every day for a few hours, attended 2 go4LoL cups and things looked promising as we entered the qualifier. The only variable was team Insane Quality which was formed just few days before the tournament and was unknown to us. Their lineup consisted of good players and we knew it wasn’t going to be easy against them. The third and most important day of the tournament had arrived and it was time for the finals against Insane Quality. The stakes couldn’t be higher as only the winner of the match gets a spot in the Greek finals. The first game didn’t go so well, we lacked behind from the start and didn’t manage to catch up. Luckily the finals were best of three and since we entered from the winners bracket the score was now 1:1. Second game we started more concentrated and we tried to calm down as much as we could. It started well, we took 2 dragons and it seemed that game was going in our favor. Sadly, after a good start, we made a few mistakes that put us behind again and their advantage in gold was rising. But finally we won one mid teamfight and managed to push their mid inhibitor. From that point on we took the initiative and finally after an exhausting hour, we won. With little time to spare before the LAN event in Greece we have already continued our preparations. I hope you will watch and support us in Greece.“

More details about the big event in Greece, how and where you’ll be able to watch it, will be published few days before the event on our site. We hope you will watch the stream with us and support Guru Gaming!
